Thank you #creativeafricanexu #canex for inviting us to be the jury for the final 30 films; it was an honour to be head of the jury with my fellow jury members Ms fatou.k.senghor and Dr.djamel_Eddine to present the winners of the #canex short film competition for best fiction, animation and documentary on Sunday 7th Sept at #iatf2025_algérie:
The final three short film Winners were in ANIMATION: OLIVIA from Shawki Boukef from ALGERIA and gave a special mention to HEART OF GOLD from Destin Junior Gnonlonfou from BENIN.
DOCUMENTARY, special mention goes to WHERE THE DUST STILL SMILES by Kristian Nehemiah Kissa from UGANDA and the grand prize to THE EGYPTIAN MARWA EL SHARKWAY for his film YOUNG HEARTS.
In FICTION, we awarded ZOGBETO from Matthew Abalo from TOGO and gave special mention to MISFIT from KARANJA NG’ENDO from Kenya.
A committee had sorted 224 short films submitted prior to us watching the final 30. Respect to Professor Martin Mhando (Director Zanzibar International Film Festival), Ms Theresa Hill (Deputy Director Social Transformation and Empowerment Projects) and Ms Cornélia Glele (Journalist, Cinema Critic and Director).
